Out of the 3,5 & 7 series which class is the Charger in?

Kinja'd!!!

A lot of people seem to be having a go at Dodge's 707HP creations as of late, saying things about how they are stupid and inefficient. Well I'm not one of them.

The Charger is by far and away my favourite looking and sounding American car so one with 707HP is a brilliant idea in my books. Hopefully someone imports one to the UK so I might be able to pick up one in a couple of decades. Besides even if I wasn't a fan of the Hellcat, I don't really have a leg to stand on when it comes to putting stupid amounts of power in cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Anyway being a car person, I look at things I can't have and one thing I was curious about but cannot find the answer for is to what class the Charger is in. I assumed it was 5 series but I'm led to understand it is priced against a 3 series which is odd since it is the size of a Jaguar XJ which means it would go up against a 7 series.

So what would a Charger be cross-shopped with, is what I'm asking.

If you're going by price probably 2-3 series. By size probably 6-7 series? I don't really know to be honest.

I'd say charger vs M5.

It's like the case of the vette being cheaper than the M4 (I know different cars blah blah), it's a (good) cheap alternative. Can't afford an M5? Get a hellcat/SRT8 Charger.

It probably weighs as much as a 7-Series, but interior wise it probably would be in the 5-Series territory.

I would say it's kind of like a bloated American 3 series. It's nowhere near 7 series luxury or prestige, and one could make a very good argument about it competing with the 5er but I don't really see it.

Well definitely not the 6 since its a 2 door 5 series, but most probably closest to the 5 series in pretty much any respect. A 7 series is truly gigantic.

I was going to say a 3 series. But the hellcat wasn't intended to compete with german cars...

I don't see much of the bigger cars. But yeah probably a 5 series.

Full size which is 7.

The 5 is shockingly a midsized and the 3 a compact.

In fairness, AMG don't build 700 HP cars because as we all know 670 HP is the epitome of sophistication and anything more is just tacky.

But the 3 is (relatively) huge

7-Series SWB overall length: 199.7"

Charger overall length: 199.9"

7-Series SWB wheelbase: 120.9"

Charger wheelbase: 120.2"

7-Series width: 74.9"

Charger width: 75.0"

7-Series height: 58.2"

Charger height: 58.3"

7-Series SWB interior volume: 124.1 cuft

Charger interior volume: 120.1cuft

7-Series trunk/boot volume: 14.0 cuft

Charger trunk/boot volume: 16.5cuft

740i base price: $74,000 USD (£47,225)

Charger base price: $26,995 USD (£17,225)

BMW 320i base price: $32,750 USD (£20,900)

Charger Hellcat base price: $63,995 USD (£40,850)

BMW M3 base price: $62,000 USD (£39,575)

As you can see, the Charger is almost exactly the same size as the SWB BMW 7-Series. But it's less expensive to buy than a base model BMW 3-Series. Even the Hellcat version with its 707hp is $10k USD/£6,375 cheaper than a base 6cyl 7-Series, and priced basically in line with the much, much smaller 425hp M3.

I don't know what the plan was, but I have a WRX now and my next car will be an American V8 sedan (asking they still are made) either an SRT or an SS. I feel like that the next step is a hotted up version of production cars, and I defo don't have M/RS/AMG money. Or V money for that matter.

Then what in God's name is a 1 series?

Also, why is this in BMW terms?

Huh, I always thought of that as compact, the 3er as midsize, the 5er as full size, and the 7 series the dreadnought.
